How are the awards judged?
In the interests of transparency, a Golden Fiddle Award is a peer given trophy. This means that a member or members of the GFA board, decide who should be a recipient of an award.
Who are the board?
The GFA board is made up of a mix of talents ranging from internationally touring musicians to music entrepreneurs – peers of the industry – infinitely capable of discerning who should receive recognition in one of our small group of categories.
The categories, for any and all styles are:
Best Fiddler
The person deemed Best Fiddler has shown themselves to be the most active and prolific fiddler or violinist over the previous 12 months, showing a continual high level of performance both live and on recordings.
Best Band with a fiddler
The Band receiving this award will have shown themselves to be the most active and prolific fiddler or violinist over the previous 12 months, showing a continual high level of performance both live and on recordings. This band will also have shown a predication to featuring their fiddler and that the fiddler has also shown a continual high level of performance.
Lifetime Achievement
The person receiving this award will have shown themselves to be the most active and prolific fiddler or violinist over their lives, showing a continual high level of performance both live and on recordings. They will have become peers in their chosen style/s and their achievements will have given benefit to the fiddle playing community in general.
Community Service Award
The person receiving this award will have shown an excellence in either teaching, making instruments, managing fiddle clubs, providing instruments, in fact anything that has helped out our fiddle or violin playing community either recently or in the past.
Other awards are sometimes given and new categories are sometimes added such as 2020’s inaugural Youth Achievement Award (Grats to Gabby Blisset).
